Ive was diagnosed with cancer at age 41 and he faced a journey that would test both his body and his mindset. His treatment included selpercatinib, and SBRT radiation.
What helped him most during treatment was, in his own words, “my strong mind.” That inner determination became the foundation he leaned on through every stage of treatment.
Cancer taught Ive a simple but powerful truth:
“Life is short.”
That realization changed the way he approached each day. Rather than focusing on fear or uncertainty, he chose to focus on living fully in the present.
His advice to others reflects that perspective:
“Enjoy every moment.”
Maintaining a positive mindset was not about pretending the journey was easy. For Ive, it came down to one guiding belief:
“There is only one way and that is the way forward.”
A meaningful turning point in his journey was the quick intervention of his oncologist, Professor Christophe Dooms, along with the support of Ilana and Irene from The Happy Lungs Project, whom he says helped him a lot. He also found support through a supervised semi-keto diet guided by Virginie Soete.
Looking back, Ive remains deeply grateful for the people who stood beside him during treatment.
“I met Ilana and Irene and they helped me a lot, I am so grateful for that!”
For others walking a similar path, he offers one final piece of advice:
“Make sure you are the captain of your own file.”
His story is a reminder that even in the middle of uncertainty, strength, gratitude, and forward movement can carry us through.
Ive is a member of our Community Advisory Board and we are happy to have him as a part of the team!
